Andy Ryland is USA Football’s senior manager of education and training at USA Football. He has consulted with programs, coaches and athletes from high school, NCAA, NFL and professional and international level rugby. He is widely recognized as a foremost expert on tackling and the preparation for contact with athletes. He has also assisted coaches of all sports in areas of drill design and skill development.
He is a former college football coach, Penn State linebacker and member of the U.S. Men’s Rugby team and is a primary instructor in a variety of USA Football’s in-person and online education programs. In his time with USA Football, he has been instrumental in the development of such programs as: Heads Up Football, the Master Trainer cohort, the Rookie Tackle game type, Shoulder Tackling, Advanced Shoulder Tackling, Prep for Contact and the Football Development Model.
